According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s research, the poll for 2022, which was performed between February 14 and March 13, saw a significant increase in the liveability index. “As a result of Covid restrictions being loosened, scores for healthcare, education, and culture have all increased. The global average score, though, is still below pre-pandemic levels, it continues.

Being the most livable cities in the world means what exactly? 
An annual Global Liveability Index, which ranks the greatest cities to live in, is published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a research firm that is a part of the Economist media source.

According to the organization’s 2022 study, which assesses 172 cities, “the concept of liveability is simple. It evaluates whether regions offer the best or worst living circumstances globally.

North American and western European cities, as well as those in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, often dominate the top of the list. The same is true this year, notwithstanding a few significant changes. As a result of its tight borders, which allowed citizens to lead reasonably normal lives, New Zealand led the list the previous year, but it has since lost ground as most restrictions imposed during the pandemic have been eased globally.

The EIU assigns each city a score between 1 and 100 based on a number of characteristics, including political stability, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. The EIU defines a score of 1 as “intolerable,” while a score of 100 is “excellent.” Although overall index scores have increased from this year’s ranking, they are still below their pre-pandemic levels.

Russian and Eastern European cities dropped off this year’s list as a result of geopolitical upheaval. Kyiv, the capital and largest city of Ukraine, was entirely omitted from the list.
