DAAD Scholarship Program
The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Scholarships in Germany are the world’s largest fundraiser for international students from developing countries. The organization was founded in 1925 and has since funded approximately 2 million scholars in Germany and abroad.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is responsible for funding the education of international students. A monthly stipend is provided to the recipients of this award to cover expenses for the duration of their studies.
Eligibility
The DAAD scholarship requirements are as follows:
- The DAAD Scholarship is awarded to students in Germany who wish to complete their studies with compulsory attendance.
- Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree within the last six years.
- Applicants must have at least two years of proven work experience.
- Depending on the course of study, there are English or German requirements.
The monthly stipend you will receive will cover living expenses, medical insurance, and some travel expenses.
- Ph.D. students will receive a monthly salary of 850 euros.
- Doctoral students will receive 1200 euros.
- Graduate students and Ph.D. students receive insurance and health insurance.

Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships
The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants some scholarships to international students who are eligible for university admission and wish to study for a master’s or doctoral degree at a school outside Germany. Each recipient of scholarships receives 300 euros per month.

They involve at least three HEI from three different countries, of which at least two must be the EU Member States and third countries associated with the Programme (previously called Programme Countries).
Eligibility
Students at the master’s level from all over the world can apply. You must have a bachelor’s degree (first degree) or be in your last year of bachelor studies and graduate before the master’s program starts.
You may also apply if you demonstrate a bachelor’s equivalent level of learning. This must be officially recognized, according to national legislation and practices, in the degree awarding country.

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship Programs
The promotion of young talent has been one of the founding principles of the FES. The first scholarships were awarded to particularly talented young individuals from a working-class milieu who were taking an active part in the young democracy of the Weimar Republic.
For the FES therefore, it is not only the applicants’ academic achievement but also their social and political involvement and their personal attitudes that play an important part in the selection process.
Eligibility
The FES supports students from public or state-approved universities and from polytechnical colleges. It supports all academic subjects and postgraduate programs. It is also possible for non-German students to apply for the scholarship program. They, however, need to study in Germany at the time of application.
The FES also supports foreign applicants who are already studying, or doing their postgraduate studies, in Germany at the time of application. Up to 40 students from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe may qualify for the scholarship program every year with the exception of those who are already receiving some support from public sources.
Benefits:
Foreign scholarship holders receive:
- 650 € per month (basic scholarship program) / 1000 € per month (graduate scholarship programme)
- 276 € of family allowance, if applicable
- refund of health care costs
- any income exceeding 400 € per month will be credited against the scholarship.
Expectations:
FES expects scholarship holders:
- to participate in extra-curricular seminars and activities of FES campus groups on a regular basis
- to achieve above-average results in their degree courses
- to continue and intensify their socio-political commitment.
- At the end of each term, a semester report has to be submitted to FES which describes the scholarship holder’s current academic performance and his/her social engagement.
