IELTS Exam Format

Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking are all tested in the IELTS exam. The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests will all be taken on the same day, one after the other, with no breaks. You can schedule the Speaking test on your favorite date and time by going online and booking a slot. If you do not select a slot within the time limit, one will be assigned to you automatically. The entire test takes less than three hours.

You must first listen to four audio before answering the questions. The test is 30 minutes long and includes recordings of native English speakers.

The reading section of the IELTS exam (60 minutes)
The IELTS Reading test consists of 40 questions and is meant to assess a variety of reading abilities. Reading for gist, main ideas, details, logical reasoning, skimming, and determining the writers’ attitudes, beliefs, and objectives would be required.

Writing section of IELTS exam (60 minutes)
The IELTS writing test consists of two assignments and, depending on the module you are taking, covers themes of general interest.

IELTS Exam Registration & Results

Keep your passport with you at all times because you’ll need it for registration. On the day of the test, you’ll also need your passport. To register, go to:

Locate a testing center near you.
Register and pay for the IELTS test online.
The date and time of your IELTS test will be confirmed to you. You can register and pay for IELTS online, or you can print and fill out an application form for your local test center.

Results
If you took an IELTS test on paper, your Test Report Form will be available 13 days after the test is completed. If you took an IELTS computer exam, you will receive your results three to five days following the test. You will see a table with an explanation of your scores and tips for improvement when you check your results using our IELTS online results portal using the link provided by your test center. For the next 28 days, you can read your results and explanation.
